Shaft Access System

DESIGN AND INSTALLATION OF MULTIPLE ACCESS CRADLES FOR 250m SHAFT

The project was a large undertaking with a number of man-riding platforms to provide access to various areas. This included our in-house engineering team designing a robust and purpose-built platform that was used to access the wall of a 250m deep shaft. The project was then fully managed and installed by our rigging teams to allow our customer to carry out their maintenance works.

In the case of the purpose built platform, the key requirement was for a large main platform providing a good working area for the operators; however, this platform would only move a couple of metres each day. There was a second, smaller platform which was used as an access/egress solution to the main working platform.

The result was a torus shaped main platform with a square shaped man-riding platform. The 2 could "dock" together to allow personnel to transfer between them easily. The design work for this project was highly detailed and ultimately provided a very efficient method of accessing the shaft wall. Due to space limitations and in order to maximise the working area on the platform all the hoisting motors were located at the top of the shaft.
